Saturday afternoons
August 8 - September 5th 2pm - 4pm
Discover the creative possibilities of clay in this hands-on pottery course designed especially for our rangitahi . Students will learn fundamental hand-building techniques, including pinch pots, coil construction, slab building, surface decoration, and glazing, while developing their own unique artistic voice.
Working with clay offers far more than technical skills. Pottery encourages creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving as students transform ideas into three-dimensional forms. Through the design process, participants learn to experiment, adapt, and refine their work, building confidence through both successes and mistakes.
This course supports young people in becoming creative thinkers and makers. As they design and construct their projects, students develop patience, resilience, and the ability to work through challenges. They learn that every piece is part of a process of exploration and improvement, where unexpected outcomes often lead to new discoveries.
Pottery also fosters focus and mindfulness. The tactile nature of clay provides a welcome break from screens and encourages students to engage with materials, ideas, and one another in meaningful ways. Working alongside peers helps develop collaboration, communication, and appreciation for diverse creative approaches.
Whether creating functional pottery or imaginative sculptural forms, students will leave the course with new skills, increased confidence, and a deeper understanding of their own creative potential.
We provide everything you need:
Clay
Tools, brushes and glazes
Aprons and a snack
Kiln firing
